The days of yore, when you are hearkened back to an era of gin joints and underground music caverns are alive and well in Monte Rio. The Rio Nido Roadhouse is an eclectic bar, restaurant and swimming hole located in the redwoods off River Road, a stone's throw from Guerneville.
We dropped by a few weeks ago after noticing their road side sign advertising 15 beers on tap. The joint was jumpin' with folks watching the game at the bar and with dinner guests enjoying the outdoor feel of their covered vine patio. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. We were greeted with a smile and a hello at the door and our drinks were served before we knew it. My kinda' drinking establishment!
They have a great beer selection, as well as a full bar and lunch and dinner menu. The food they were bringing out of the kitchen surely looked tantalized to my taste buds. Prices are downright reasonable for the portions they were serving and my eye is set on their rib plate special next time we visit the area.
They offer music on weekends, with a wide variety of bands from world beat to blues. Check their schedule here.
We visited in the winter, so we didn't get to use the pool. But, it looks like a nice place to bring the kids if you are looking for an alternative swimming hole near the Russian River.
If you are looking for a fun and inexpensive lunch or dining spot, or a fun place to listen to music and enjoy a beer, I have to agree with owner Brad Metzger's description of the Roadhouse, "this is the most fun I have had in a double wide trailer!Scot Sier Artist's View Vacation Rental ,
